'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Might Feature Classic Villain Vulture

Spider-Man's next solo film will be Spider-Man: Homecoming, as revealed by Sony Pictures at CinemaCon.

What that "Homecoming" subtitle exactly means isn't entirely clear, as there are no official details about the Marvel-produced and Sony-distributed film. However, a new rumor via BirthMoviesDeath says the classic Spidey villain Vulture may have a role.

The site reports that the character is set to make his cinematic debut in the film, though it's unclear if Vulture will be the main villain or a side-attraction. According to the site, Sam Raimi originally wanted to have the character appear in his Spider-Man films, but ended up doing Venom instead. We all know how that turned out.

Vulture is one of the web-slinger's most classic villains, going by the real name Adrian Toomes. He's an older villain, often depicted as an aged, bald man. After being swindled by his business partner, Toomes used a flight suit of his own design and took to a life of crime, only to be thwarted time and time again by Spider-Man. He's been featured in numerous other Spider-Man properties, ranging from games to TV shows over the years, but has yet to appear in a movie.

Before Sony's deal with Marvel, the studio was looking to bring Vulture (along with Rhino, Electro and other Spider-Man villains) to the big screen in a Sinister Six film. That project has now been scrapped, but it's certainly possible that the idea of using the Vulture could carry over. Vulture also makes sense in that he is one of the few major Spider-Man villains who hasn't yet been featured in a film.

As for how credible this rumor might be, it's worth noting that BirthMoviesDeath did report that the film would be called Spider-Man: Homecoming before the official announcement. Take that for whatever it's worth.

Simply judging from the film's title treatment and what Marvel has stated previously, expect Spider-Man: Homecoming to be a more classic take on the character than we've seen in the past. If that's the case, it doesn't get any more classic than Vulture.
