The much-rumored Meizu Pro 6 smartphone is now official, boasting neat specs all around.
Just the other day, a massive Meizu Pro 6 leak revealed basically everything about the device, and Meizu now confirms that some leaks can prove to be spot on.
The world's first deca-core smartphone was the Zopo Speed 8, which packed a MediaTeck Helio X10, but the new Meizu Pro 6 scored the exclusive on the flagship Helio X25 10-core mobile chip.
Meizu Pro 6 Specs
The Meizu Pro 6 actually rocks good specifications on all fronts. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a full HD resolution (1080p) and 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3, while 4 GB of RAM back up the powerful deca-core processor.
Other specs include 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage space, a 21-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel selfie cam, a 2,560 mAh battery, LTE Cat. 6, and USB Type-C, among the highlights. The smartphone doesn't support NFC, but it has plenty of cool features.
The 2,560 mAh battery has a 24W rapid charging feature that can juice up the device to a full 100 percent in just one hour. Meizu highlights that all thermal and short-circuit protection measures are in place, so there's no risk that the rapid charge will fry your device. Moreover, the tri-cluster architecture of the Helio X25 chip should further extend battery life based on usage behavior, but it remains to be seen just how it will work out.
"The brand-new Helio X25 processor adopts a revolutionary 10-core 3-cluster architecture. The Cortex-A72 CPU and the Mali-T880 GPU complement each other perfectly, resulting in an Antutu score of 101757 points," says Meizu. "With eMMC 5.1 flash memory and ultra-large 4GB RAM, Meizu PRO 6 can easily handle all situations. Meizu PRO 6 is also integrated with the kernel-level power-saving algorithm. It can intelligently switch between three clusters to balance endurance and performance."
Meizu Pro 6 Features
The Meizu Pro 6 also sports a "3D Press" feature, which is basically a clone of Apple's 3D Touch. This means that it involves a pressure-sensitive display to offer extra functionality depending on how hard the user presses. Such functionality includes toggling a shortcut menu, previewing content such as messages, URLs, emails and more.
The mTouch feature, meanwhile, offers a mobile payment experience via fingerprint recognition. The fingerprint scanner is embedded into the home button and boasts Meizu's new fingerprint security algorithm for better recognition in terms of both speed and rate, as well as improved security.
Another neat feature consists of "mSound," which promises to deliver high-quality audio with little distortion. The smartphone also supports lossless audio formats such as APE and FLAC.
On the software side, the smartphone runs Flyme 5, which Meizu touts as an "in-depth customized version of Android."
Design
In terms of design, the Meizu Pro 6 rocks a smooth aluminum body that makes it look and feel premium, while maintaining a thin profile that's actually slimmer than the iPhone 6s Plus. Meizu tried to dissimulate its Apple inspiration by curving the ends of the smartphone's two plastic rear antenna bands and repositioning the camera modules, but the Pro 6 still bears an uncanny resemblance to Apple's iPhones. Even the color options match, as the Pro 6 comes in Gold, Gray and Silver avatars.
Unique 10-LED Camera Flash Ring
The aforementioned 21-megapixel rear camera gracing the Meizu Pro 6 is worth some special consideration. While the camera features the Sony IMX230 midrange sensor, which may not be on par with the latest flagships out there, it does have some tricks that make it stand out.
The camera Meizu Pro 6's rear camera comes with improved laser autofocus, as well as a unique flash ring that consists of no less than 10 LEDs. This is a first for smartphones, and it also adds a nice touch to go with the 10-core processor. On the other hand, the camera lens has Gorilla Glass 3 protection instead of the more durable sapphire, likely in a bid to lower costs.
Pricing And Availability
Speaking of costs, the Meizu Pro 6 will come with an affordable price tag, starting at 2,499 yuan – roughly $390 off-contract – for the 32 GB variant. The 64 GB version will go up for 2,799 yuan, which translates to roughly $430.
It remains unclear just when the Meizu Pro 6 will hit the market, but the dual-SIM version with 32 GB of storage is already up for preorder in China. The 64 GB model should arrive later on.
