Joan Rivers was a force to be reckoned with. When the comedian passed away, social media was abuzz with an outpouring of sympathies for her family. Shocked by her death, fellow celebrities took to Twitter to pay tribute.
For someone with such grit and unapologetic candidness, it's hard to believe that Joan Rivers was already 81 years old. Just last week, she was on E!'s Fashion Police doing what she did best: dishing out on what celebrities were wearing at the red carpet for the MTV Video Music Awards and the Emmy Awards. And then she was gone.
She died surrounded by friends and family and in her last moments remained fabulous, with her hair and makeup all done and a white faux mink blanket over her. Broadway hit "Oklahoma!" was also playing in her room as her loved ones said their goodbyes. Her daughter Melissa said that it's difficult right now but wishes that everyone would return to laughing soon, as she knows her mother would've wanted.
After Melissa's announcement regarding River's death, Twitter was flooded with messages of sorrow and disbelief. A number also took the opportunity to share their fondest memories of the Fashion Police host, including: Anna Kendrick who said "RIP Joan Rivers. Being publicly told that my dress is hideous will never feel quite as awesome. You will be truly missed."
Lena Dunham replied to Kendrick's tweet with "she once said my tats looked like Michael J Fox drew them and Stevie Wonder filled them in <3." "That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it's made of polyurethane," Dunham said in another tweet.
Katy Perry also had words to share about Rivers, tweeting "What's the point of wearing all these dumb costumes if Joan's not here to rip them apart :( RIP Joan Rivers. You are a one of a one."
