HTC Desire 820: 64-bit octa-core chip, powerful selfie cameras

HTC's announcement came just in time for the IFA event in Berlin. The HTC Desire 820 is now officially known to the public after being rumored lately. It gets its inspiration from the success of the Desire 816 which was introduced at MWC this year in the month of February. Following the winning formula of its older sibling, the Desire 820 still measures 5.5 inches across. Other familiar features include the 720p resolution, the 13-megapixel sensor of the rear camera, and the bold colors which look bolder than ever in the Desire 820.

The new device from HTC sports a 1280 x 720 display and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor. To be more specific, it is packed with four 1.0GHz cores and four 1.5GHz cores. It also has a RAM of 2GB and internal storage of 16GB. For the photo buffs, the device has a front shooter of 8 megapixels and a rear camera of 13 megapixels (f/2.2 lens) as mentioned earlier. Its 2600mAh battery is enough to keep the device up and running at least for one whole day.

Currently, the Desire 820 is packed with Android 4.4 KitKat though HTC plans to have it upgraded into Android "L" in the near future. It will certainly be a great move considering that the device comes with a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 on the inside. Apart from the unibody polycarbonate design, it also has the ubiquitous pair of BoomSound front-facing speakers, something that HTC is famous for. Lastly, the Desire 820 is a 4G LTE Cat 4 capable device.

"The HTC Desire 820 is about bringing the best of HTC," says Darren Sng, HTC's Global Product Marketing Manager. "Simplicity is the very core of the Desire 820."

HTC placed a huge focus on the design factor of the Desire 820. Measuring at only 7.7mm thick, it's absolutely one of the sleekest phones in the market to date. Along with the sleek body, it weighs at only 155g. However, it may be a little tricky to hold it with just one hand knowing that it measures 158mm long and 79mm wide.

Color is also given some deep attention in the Desire 820. It has a unique two-tone unibody design which is available in several bright colors. Each has different colored accents found on the buttons, camera lens, and edging.

The HTC Desire 820 will have global availability towards the end of September. Select locations will have a dual nano SIM model. Pricing details are yet to be announced.
