Organizing our schedules just got a whole lot easier on Microsoft's email app Outlook.
The team at Outlook announced on Thursday that it added Facebook, Wunderlist and Evernote integration to help users better manage their tasks.
Called Calendar app, the new Outlook feature syncs calendars and to-do lists from other apps (starting with the three that were just mentioned), so that the user will be able to see a more complete view of their schedules, whether that means for that day, week or month.
Using Calendar app, the user will now be able to see everything they have planned from these third-party apps within their Outlook calendar. This includes things like events on Facebook the user is attending, and their various lists on apps like Evernote and Wunderlist.
How To Sync Your Facebook, Wunderlist and Evernote Accounts
To sync your accounts with these third-party apps into Outlook, start by going to the app's calendar and swiping left. Then, look for the heading "Calendar App," and tap on the "+Add" button to the right.
All that's left to do is to add your Facebook, Wanderlist and Evernote accounts, and then, you are ready to start getting the most of out the new calendar's features.
How To Use The New Features
The main feature with the Facebook integration is getting your events into Outlook's calendar. You might recall that Outlook.com no longer supports Facebook Connect, so it's great to be able to stay up-to-date with the latest events coming up.
Once your Facebook account is synced, you will be able to view the events you are invited to and have accepted. Tap on the event to RSVP and see its details like the time and location.
This feature also allows you to see friends' birthdays on your Outlook calendar, and then open Facebook from the app to wish them a happy birthday.
Wunderlist
If making to-do lists keeps you sane, you probably use Wunderlist multiple times throughout the day. In Outlook, all your tasks will be displayed in the calendar, with the ability to tap on them to see more details. There is also the ability to open tasks in Wunderlist. This is helpful if you wanted to check off related tasks completed related to the main task at hand, such as picking out a new style before that 1 p.m. haircut appointment.
Evernote
Note-takers will be able to further organize themselves for that work meeting on Monday morning by integrating Evernote into Outlook. Now that you have added your Evernote account, make sure to set reminders when you are making notes so that it will appear in the Outlook calendar.
Once this reminder is on the calendar, you can tap on it to bring up further information and read all your notes by opening Evernote.
One helpful hint is that users can change the colors of the tasks in the calendar menu so that you can easily tell which item is a Facebook event (use blue!) or not.
Outlook also plans to bring Skype for Business and OneNote integration into its app in the future. The app already supports calendars from Outlook.com, Office 365, Gmail and iCloud. Microsoft has been working on bringing new calendar features to the app since it acquired the Sunrise calendar app last year.
The new Facebook, Wanderlist and Evernote calendar integration for Outlook is available now with the latest version of the app for iOS and Android.
