Apple is scheduled to launch its latest flagship models in September, and the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus should boast impressive improvements in design, specs and features.
A recent report indicates that Apple's upcoming premium phones will be leaner and lighter than the previous iPhone 6S and 6S Plus handsets.
The details about the design arrived thanks to ET News, and the webpage explains how the OEM is able to deliver thinner flagship phones. Two elements contribute to the space-saving: the high-tech packaging technology to the RF (Radio Frequency) chip and the Fan Out Packaging technology.
What is Fan Out Packaging?
The FOT allows manufacturers to expand the number of input/output terminals within a package by changing the location of the wiring.
FOT packaging allows for an increased number of I/O terminals without affecting the dimension of the chip, something that is very profitable from the point of view of manufacturing costs.
"Because industries do not want to increase the size of a chip just for I/O terminals, they have been paying attention to Fan Out Packaging technology recently," ET News says.
Additional rumors about the iPhone 7 claim that the device will leave behind the classic 3.5 mm audio jack, forcing the audio to rely on the Lighting port alone.
Owners of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus devices have little to complain about, but the battery life is one of the lackluster aspects of Apple's handset. That is why the company is purportedly planning to fit a larger power source into the next flagship models. Recently-leaked images point to a 7.04 watt-hour battery for the iPhone 7, showing that the OEM is keen on (slightly) upgrading the battery from the iPhone 6s, which had a capacity of 6.61 watt-hours.
People from the industry point out that the upcoming iPhone models will pack the new Apple A10 CPU, and the amount of RAM will also be receiving a boost. To have the full image, you should know that the iPhone 6S features 2 GB of RAM, while the general expectation is that the iPhone 7 will holster at least 3 GB of RAM, if not more.
We will make sure to keep you posted on all developments of the iPhone 7 until its official release in September.
