Hope you enjoyed your summer, because things are about to get chilly.
Hold onto your reindeer, everybody. "Frozen" is coming back into our lives. Disney announced that it will release a new short film featuring our favorite Arendelle inhabitants in Spring 2015. It's not exactly the full-fledged sequel fans were hoping for, but it'll do for now.
It looks like the short, titled "Frozen Fever," will bring back all of the beloved characters: Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf. However, there's no word yet on whether Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff or Josh Gad will voice their respective characters once again. Although the massive success of the film, which earned $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, and the fact that the cast has reunited for a "Frozen" project before, makes me think that there is a strong possibility they will lend their voices to these characters once more.
Here's a plot description of the short from Disney: "It's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk."
"Frozen" directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will also return to take the helm of "Frozen Fever." And you best warm up your singing voice, because the duo behind "Frozen"'s soundtrack, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will be back with a new song for the short.
This is just the latest news in what is sure to be continued worldwide domination by "Frozen." ABC aired a special taking viewers behind-the-scenes of the hit animated film on Sept. 2, where the news of "Frozen Fever" was originally announced. Characters from "Frozen" will also be incorporated into the upcoming season of "Once Upon A Time" on ABC. And there's a live-action Broadway musical adaptation in the works.
However, if you were hoping for an actual "Frozen" sequel anytime soon, the "Frozen Fever" short might have to suffice for a while. Regarding a "Frozen" sequel, one of the film's producers Peter Del Vecho told TVGuide.com, "Right now, it's too early for us to talk anything about that."
"Frozen Fever" is set to debut in Spring 2015, although there's no word on where it will actually debut. The Disney films currently slated for release at that time of year are "Cinderella" (March 2015), "Tomorrowland" (May 2015) and Pixar's "Inside Out" (June 2015). It's very likely that "Frozen Fever" could premiere before one of these feature-length films.
Until then, we'll just continue to listen to "Let It Go" on repeat.
