Yahoo has some great news for sports lovers, especially the baseball fans. The company announced on April 4, that they would be live streaming one Major League Baseball (MLB) game every day, for free.
Though facing some stiff competition from the likes of Facebook, Google and Twitter, Yahoo always manages to draw in millions of sports fans. Moreover, introducing a free MLB live feed daily, will sure spur its attempt to regain footing on the digital platform.
The MLB "Free Game of the Day" has started with the San Francisco Giants taking on the Milwaukee Brewers, wherein the latter continued with its winning streak in the World Series.
This very cool service will feature a total of 180 commercial-break-driven games, with the league stars and teams visiting the viewers' home without having to subscribe to the MLB's online portal. The entire list of the games and their timings are available on Yahoo Sports.
Live streaming is the latest move by Yahoo to also rake in additional revenue, although baseball is not the first sport that it featured. At present, it also streams this season's select NHL games and even broadcasts an NFL game last year.
CEO Marissa Mayer reported that 30 brands for about 70 ad spots can be tied back to the NFL live stream alone. She also mentioned that all ad spots are now sold out, although low demand caused a reduction in ad prices.
However, through live streaming, Yahoo seems to have embraced sports as its strong point. The MLB "Free Game of the Day" may not only strengthen its sports content platform, but could also win back some investors that had been advising the company to narrow down its business growth areas.
