The BlackBerry Priv appeared in a new video and from the looks of it, it seems like the handset is finally getting the much-awaited Marshmallow update.
The video also shows the BlackBerry Priv as having a great UI following the handset's Android 6.0 update.
Fans can expect to see a number of features being added to the BlackBerry Priv after the Marshmallow update. These include Doze, App Standby and Enhanced App Permissions.
Doze is a feature that will put the device to a sleep state when it is left idle. As a result, it helps the device save some juice so the battery lasts longer. As soon as the device is updated to Marshmallow, Doze should start working automatically.
When the smartphone has indeed "gone to sleep," the user can still receive notifications that wake the device up from its dozing state. These include phone calls, SMS messages and any other apps that are considered as "high-priority."
App Standby is another feature that will help the device avoid battery drain. It allows the system to determine when the user is not actively using an app, which makes the latter idle and seldom used. Similar to Doze, App Standby can suspend network access for the apps without having to do anything in the foreground.
Android Marshmallow also allows the user to grant access to an app while denying access to other apps. When users open an app, they will see a pop-up that asks if they are willing to give access to a certain feature or not. It is similar to granting access to GPS when one is using Maps.
Early in January, we reported that the new BlackBerry Priv is definitely getting the Marshmallow update based on the announcement made by Ron Louks, Blackberry's executive at the annual CES event.
The BlackBerry Priv became available to consumers in November 2015 and came with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as a pre-installed OS. It is the company's first Android-based smartphone and it seems like it won't be the last one either, as BlackBerry CEO John Chen said they are releasing at least one new Android-based device in 2016.
More details about the Marshmallow update on the BlackBerry Priv are expected to surface soon. The handset is expected to become available in 31 countries this year. In the meantime, check out the video below to see how Marshmallow works its magic on the Priv.
