James Corden Breaks Into Primetime With ‘Carpool Karaoke': Five Facts About The ‘Late Late Show’ Host

CBS decided to give James Corden a primetime slot to air Carpool Karaoke special, which highlights the segment's best moments from the past year.

It has been just a little over a year since Corden succeeded Craig Ferguson in The Late Late Show, but "Carpool Karaoke" is already a huge hit. The segment does not only appeal to his late night audience, but to those who would like to see their favorite celebrities belting it out while Corden drives to work.

To say that Corden was happy about the news is an understatement. Just take a look at the video he posted on March 28.

We already know that Corden is one funny man from his talk show and sketch so let us learn some more things about this host who keeps us entertained even late at night.

Fact Number One: Corden Debuted In A Stage Musical

Corden's debut into the world of acting may probably explain his affinity for songs because his very first role is that of a character in the stage musical "Martin Guerre" at the age of 18. His character only says one line, but that does not change the fact that his stint in the 1996 London's West End show began his acting career.

Fact Number Two: He Performed On Stage In Different Countries

Corden has several small and guest roles in several television series and film, but before his rise to fame in the latter half of the 2000s, the stage was what supported the comedian.

In fact, from 1996 - his first stage role - until 2012, he performed in theaters in London, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia and New York, including Broadway.

Even if he only acted in four stage plays, he took home a Tony Award in 2012 for the Best Performance by a Lead Actor, winning against the likes of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, James Earl Jones, Frank Langella and John Lithgow. If that is not validation of his talent, we are not sure what is.

Fact Number Three: Corden Is Hosting The 2016 Tony Awards And The Executive Producers Are Looking Forward to It

It seems the executive producers of the 70th Tony Awards are fans of his "Carpool Karaoke" segment, so maybe Corden should take the opportunity to carpool with one of the nominees or performers.

"Carpooling on Broadway will never be the same!" Executive Producers Ricky Kirshner and Glen Weiss said in the announcement.

Fact Number Four: Corden Is Not Just An Actor, He Is A Great Writer Too

Just how great of a writer is Corden?

The sitcom that he co-starred and co-wrote for BBC Three, Gavin & Stacey, was nominated for the Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award in 2007 and won in 2008. It was also nominated - and in some award, won - the United Kingdom's TV Quick Awards, Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, Broadcasting Press Guild Award, British Comedy Award and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Fact Number Five: He Nailed The Music Video Poses J.Lo Showed Him

It is actually better if you just watch the whole "Carpool Karaoke" special with Jennifer Lopez because it's such a riot. Adele's "Carpool Karaoke" is still way up there, of course, but the special with J. Lo gets extra points because Leonardo DiCaprio replied to the text Corden sent from J. Lo's phone.
