The announcement was made at the PAX Prime gaming convention. The "Halo: Nightfall" live-action series is said to take place between the "Halo 4" and "Halo 5: Guardians" video games. The latter is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of next year and will be exclusively available to Xbox One console users. "Halo: Nightfall" focuses on agent Jameson Locke. The character, which will be playable in "Halo 5," is portrayed by Mike Colter.
At the PAX Prime panel, the developers also hinted more details on "Halo: The Master Chief Collection." The collection brings together four of the game's previous installments to the new generation Xbox One game console which shall coincide with "Nightfall" on November 11.
The first installment, "Halo: Combat Evolved," was released in 2001. From that day onwards, it has become an inspiration to several cross-platform sequels in comics, novels, video games, and more. "Halo 4," the last major edition, raked in $300 million in sales which broke all sales records in its first week of release in 2012.
Following the launch date of "Halo: Nightfall," Microsoft is also releasing new episodes every week. Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Alien) is the series' executive producer while Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (Heroes, The Pillars of Earth, Battlestar Galactica) handles the directing.
In the meantime, 343 Industries talks more of the Halo Channel and the additional content it is creating. As an upcoming hub for everything that talks about Halo, the Halo Channel will feature something beyond the "Halo: Nightfall" series.
The Halo Channel is an all-new interactive digital network that will provide personalized access to the "Halo" universe. It will be the home to all Halo content and entertainment. It will also be available on Xbox One and Windows 8.1 devices beginning on November 11, 2014. The Windows Phone 8.1 version will be available shortly after.
Kiki Wolfkill, Halo series executive producer teases on what fans can expect on the show. The show happens on Halo alpha, the place that was destroyed by Master Chief towards the end of the first game. It shows a fragment of the halo which found an orbit around a star. While the fragment rotates in its orbit, its organic side is turned to face the star. This results to getting the star's unbearable heat which cannot be tolerated by any form of life. The side that faces away from the star has survivable temperature. This is how the show is called "Nightfall." It means that the team can only survive at night. It also shows the concept of shifting environment in the Halo fragment.
Paul Lipson, audio director of "Halo" played new tracks from Steve Vai and Misha Mansoor which shall form part of the remastered edition of "Halo 2." "It just wouldn't be 'Halo 2' without a guitar legend," says Lipson.
