The rumored HTC 10 may have a lesser-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 variant.
The smartphone maker launched the One M9 at the 2015 Mobile World Congress (MWC), and many mobile phone enthusiasts were hoping for HTC to launch the successor of the One M9, dubbed HTC 10 or HTC M10, at this year's MWC. While Samsung and LG have already announced their flagship smartphones at the 2016 MWC, HTC missed the party.
However, the Taiwanese phone maker has announced a press event in Taipei, London and New York on April 12, where the company may take the wraps off the highly-anticipated HTC 10.
The HTC 10 will be a flagship handset for HTC, and several rumors have suggested that it will be available with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Customers can pick from two models: 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM or 128 GB of on-board storage and 4 GB of RAM.
However, new rumors point that HTC is also working on a Snapdragon 652 version of the phone, which may make its way to some regions. This iteration of the device will have 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage capacity.
Just like the Snapdragon 820 version of the HTC 10, the Snapdragon 652 variant of the phone will also get 5.1-inch QHD display with 2560 by 1440 pixel resolution. The handset may have a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera and 5 megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is also estimated to have a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Snapdragon 820 as well as Snapdragon 652 models will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed.
The Snapdragon 652 version of HTC 10 will have a price tag of 3,799 Yuan, or about $584. The 3 GB and 4 GB variants of the Snapdragon 820-based HTC 10 will cost 4,999 Yuan, or around $768, and 5,888 Yuan, or about $904, respectively.
HTC is not the only smartphone maker that is bringing a flagship phone with a lesser-powerful Snapdragon processor. Previous reports confirm that LG will also launch the LG G5 with a Snapdragon 652 processor in Latin America and most probably in China.
Cristian Correa, LG's sales manager for Chile, says that the company decided to opt for a Snapdragon 652 processor instead of the Snapdragon 820 processor for the LG G5 in Latin America after getting network operators' feedback and considering the currency appreciation in the region.
HTC has not yet confirmed the HTC 10, and customers will have to wait until April 12 for the company to reveal all information about the upcoming smartphone. Till then, rumors of the HTC 10 should be taken with a pinch of salt.
