Just like to on-screen heroes he plays, Hugh Jackman leapt into action when some swimmers got caught in some dangerous situation when a riptide came pulling them into deeper waters — including his own children, 10-year-old Ava and 15-year-old Oscar.
A video exclusively shown on 9news Australia shows the real life Wolverine did not even hesitate to help pull his children and other swimmers out of the water and into safety. According Daniel Conn, a former National Rugby League of Australia star, he and Jackman were chatting on the beach when the tide suddenly changed and the swimmers began to get pulled out.
"He just went into full on Hugh Jackman mode... He got Oscar and he also helped some other people too, it was amazing," Conn said.
The video also shows Peter Adam, another beach goer, helping Jackman get his daughter out of the water.
Other eyewitnesses said that Jackman was able to remain calm and level-headed, which enabled him to help life guards get everyone out of danger.
The North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club acknowledge the help that Jackman gave them via an Instagram post detailing that 43 rescues in total were made that afternoon with only 12 official life guards on patrol. The beach was closed for the rest of the day due to safety but no major injuries were reported from the sudden riptide.
Like a true, humble hero, Jackman did not speak with the news and camera crew at the beach after the rescues, saying he was too shaken.
Jackman and his family have reportedly returned to their home in Melbourne and a representative for the actor said that he and his children are completely fine and that "the incident looks far more dramatic than it actually was."
Last February, Jackman also showed how much of a hero he can be by sharing a photo on his Instagram, post-biopsy where an abnormal growth was removed from his nose, which turned out to be Basal Cell, a mild form of cancer.
