The LG G5 'Lite' passes through China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center, or TENAA.
The smartphone maker launched the LG G5 in February, which packs in top-end features such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM and more. However, the LG G5 will not be available in some countries with the same high-end specs.
It seems that China will not get the LG G5 with the top-notch features. The LG H848, also known as the LG G5 Lite, has been spotted at TENAA. The phone's official name remains LG G5; however, the specs reduction is enough for the smartphone to earn LG G5 Lite moniker.
The rear-facing camera is expected to be 16-megapixel, the same as the original LG G5.
A previous report suggests that LG G5 in Latin America will also get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor and 3 GB of RAM. Cristian Correa, LG's sales manager for Chile, has also confirmed that the LG G5 in Latin America will receive a less powerful Snapdragon processor.
Feedback from network operators, combined with currency appreciation in the region, are said to be the reason behind LG opting for a Snapdragon 652 chip instead of a Snapdragon 820 processor in the LG G5 Lite.
LG has announced an array of companion devices for the LG G5, which will enhance the overall experience for LG G5 users. The LG 360 VR - a virtual reality headset - is one of the companion devices for the LG G5. The headmount does not hold the LG G5 but is connected to the handset via cables.
The LG G5 Lite for Latin America will not support LG 360 VR, which means customers cannot get a virtual reality experience with their LG G5.
The LG G5 sports a 5.3-inch QHD screen with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels, 32 GB of expandable storage and 8-megapixel wide camera. The same features are expected to be included in the LG G5 Lite.
The LG G5 Lite may bridge that gap, which means offering affordable processing options without compromising the rest of the hardware specs. A less powerful chipset also translates to reduced price of the mobile phone, which will allow LG to penetrate in more markets.
The LG G5 Lite is also estimated to get the same Android 6.0 Marshmallow as found on the LG G5, which means that customers of both phones will have the same software experience.
LG has not confirmed the LG G5 Lite for China but with the phone crossing TENAA, it is highly likely the smartphone will be launched in the country sooner than later.
