Marvel is enjoying a fair bit of success on the small screen thanks to shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Shows based on characters like Iron Fist and Luke Cage are also on the way, but there is one other costumed hero that may soon be getting the television treatment if a new rumor is to be believed.
That hero is none other than Captain Britain. Movie poster artist and producer Ciara McAvoy recently took to Twitter with a special announcement, asking who would be playing Captain Britain's Brian Braddock in an upcoming TV series. An image of what appears to be a new take on Captain Britain's costume accompanied the tweet.
She followed up the tweet several days later to tell fans that she couldn't reveal anything yet and that she was waiting on "the go-ahead from the co-producer." That's when she announced that Chris Lark would be among the show's producers.
Marvel, for what it's worth, has yet to make any official comment on the matter. McAvoy says she expects Marvel to make a proper announcement about the show in late 2016 or possibly early 2017.
Captain Britain is essentially the British version of Captain America, though his origin story is far different from that of Steve Rogers. Rather than received powers through a supersoldier program, Brian Braddock is instead offered the choice to become Britain's superhero by the wizard of myth, Merlyn, and his daughter Roma.
The rather obscure character doesn't exactly seem like the most obvious choice for a new show, but that was also what people said about even more obscure characters like Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Few believed Guardians of the Galaxy would turn into the smash hit that it became, so perhaps Marvel is onto something. As long as the story and characters are interesting, it doesn't matter if the majority of people have heard of a character or not.
