Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have been at each other's throats so much during this 2016 presidential race that there's really one way to settle this war — in the Octagon.
That's exactly what the folks at MMAGame did, publishing a UFC 2 gameplay video on YouTube on Monday, pitting the Republican presidential hopefuls against each other in the vicious but disciplined blood sport of mixed martial arts.
Before the bout even begins, we have to point out the obvious. Cruz is a dead ringer for the actual Texas senator, as MMAGame did a great job getting his total likeness down pat. Trump, on the other hand, doesn't really resemble the cocky billionaire businessman, but then again that signature hairdo isn't easy to replicate, so we understand.
That being said, once they enter the Octagon, both politicians-turned-fighters in this case come out ready to brawl, as Cruz lands a couple of punches and Trump returns fire with some leg kicks. The bout really picks up when Cruz lands a solid left hand, which connects squarely to Trump's jaw, with The Donald landing a high inside kick in return. Wow, who knew Trump's MMA flexibility was greater than that of his vocabulary?
As the match progresses, Cruz finds plenty of holes in Trump's defense, landing lefts and rights at will, before staggering and dropping The Donald with a vicious right hand. A left and right uppercut later and Trump is woozy and punch-drunk, struggling to find his jelly-like legs in a world of pain.
But somehow, some way, Trump finds a way to battle back, even attempting a ground-and-pound on his foe. The first of five scheduled one-minute rounds ends with a bloody Trump hunched over in the corner, gasping for air.
The second round — not to mention, the fight — ends just one minute in, when Cruz pummels Trump into unconsciousness. Just like that, Cruz's hand is raised in victory.
Hmm ... is this a taste of things to come in their presidential race, too?
This MMAGame UFC 2 gameplay treatment should be given to all political competitors, including Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
From there, the winner could get Cruz and maybe The Donald could go back to hosting fights at the Trump.
