The monster-filled, post-apocalyptic future never looked so good.
Metro Redux has been released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Take a look at the first-person shooter in the launch trailer below.
The game is actually a release of two different titles made by 4A Games: Metro 2033, first released in March 2010, and its sequel Metro Last Light, from May 2013. The games have been updated to have better graphics, especially the original game, which was remade to be played in the improved game engine of its sequel. It was noted on the PlayStation blog that the games will run in 1080p resolution at a smooth 60 frames-per-second on PlayStation 4. (The developer stated in the past that it would run at 900p on Xbox One.)
Both Metro games take place in a post-nuclear world, where survivors live in the underground train stations of Moscow, away from the nuclear fallout and the mutated wildlife.
The original game is based on the Russian novel "Metro 2033" by Dmitry Glukhovsky from 2005, which was later translated and published in the U.S. in 2010. The book spawned a sequel "Metro 2034" by Glukhovsky, as well as various other novels and anthologies set in the "Metro" universe written by other writers.
Metro Redux retails for $50 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Either of the enhanced versions of Metro 2033 or Metro Last Light can be downloaded as separate digital games for $25 each.
