Quidditch Is The Best New 'Halo 5' Game Type

Some of the Halo franchise's best official multiplayer game types began as fan creations. Swat, Grifball and Infection all began as custom game types made by creative players, and would eventually all become adopted by Halo creators Bungie and 343 Industries to be experienced by all the Halo-playing masses.

While this latest Halo 5 game type isn't official yet, it should be. One look at the video below should be all the information you need to agree.

It's Quidditch, as in the fictional wizarding sport of J.K. Rowling's wildly popular Harry Potter book series. And it looks like a blast. Each player is equipped with both a sword and the newly added gravity hammer, and the goal itself is simple: get the ball through one of the three hoops on the opposing team's side.

But it's not that simple when players on the enemy team are flying across the field (not on broomsticks) to kill you. That's because gravity is turned way down for the gametype, allowing players to take to the skies with each jump or sword lunge. If you can manage to throw the ball through one of the opposing team's goals, you'll score three points. If you run it through the hoop (via the ground pound ability) you'll score only one. First to 15 points wins. Hilarity ensues.

It's the chaos of the always-entertaining Grifball mode but with a whole other layer of complexity added on top. The icing on the cake is how creator xXHugabearXX perfectly captures the look of Harry Potter's Quidditch arenas as well. The creation was recently featured on the Xbox One dashboard, guaranteeing even more people will download his game type and try it out for themselves.

That being said, the vast majority of Halo 5 players will never get the chance to experience this game type for themselves unless 343 makes an official playlist for it. Out of all the custom games created in Halo 5 thus far, we can't think of a new game type more deserving of the honor. Except for maybe pancake flipping. That was pretty cool.
