Good news to all those who can't get enough of Batman's origin story: Fox announced on Wednesday that "Gotham" has been renewed for a third season. So, we will get to see more of Bruce Wayne's growth and more iconic DC Comics supervillains who terrorize Gotham.
Perhaps season three is when fans will finally get a glimpse of the real Joker, considering the villain's arrival has been teased with the character of Jerome Valeska - only for him to get killed off later on - and now with a very Joker-esque Jeri, played by Lori Petty.
It is certainly exciting to imagine what showrunners Danny Cannon, Bruno Heller and John Stephens have in store for everyone as more and more of Gotham's infamous villains are popping up - not to mention Edward Nygma's transition to Riddler and Doctor Hugo Strange's experiments with the inmates of Arkham Asylum.
Of course, fans will also get a treat this coming Monday when Paul Reubens guest stars as Elijah Van Dahl, Oswald Cobblepot's father. A meeting between the two would be interesting since Oswald or "Penguin" is, in all sense of the word, a mama's boy, so we have yet to see whether he has serious daddy issues or Van Dahl will be able to replace Gertrude for his grieving son.
"It takes a very special team to tell the tales of 'Gotham.' For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honored the mythology of 'Gotham' and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama ... This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn't be more proud of this show," Fox's President for Entertainment David Madden said.
Of course, let us not forget Bruce and Detective Jim Gordon's own growth throughout the show. They will only get tested even more in the remaining episodes of season two as we all learn more about what exactly is going on inside the Arkham Asylum.
