Deckard may be resuming his hunt for replicants sooner than you would imagine.
Director Ridley Scott stated that the script for "Blade Runner 2" is finished, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"It's written and it's damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years -- despite the accident," Scott said with a laugh (acknowledging Ford's "Star Wars" on-set accident). "So yes, that will happen."
As for when he might actually start making "Blade Runner 2," Scott said, "Probably after [The Martian.]" And when would a sequel for "Prometheus" be made? "That's the problem," Scott says. "I've got a lot of ducks in a row. But they're all written."
Warner Bros. subsidiary Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights to "Blade Runner" in 2011. Then in 2012, while working on "Alien"-prequel "Prometheus," Scott stated he would produce and direct the new film. Soon, it was revealed to be a sequel to "Blade Runner," and not just set in the same sci-fi future, with Harrison Ford possibly returning.
"Blade Runner" is the 1982 science fiction film based on Philip K. Dick's novel, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" It follows a bounty hunter named Deckard who is tracking down a group of runaway replicants, robots that are made to look and act like humans. The film is famous for its identity-bending story, its gritty and noir future, as well as its then state-of-the-art special effects.
"The Martian" is Scott's upcoming film starring Matt Damon as an astronaut that gets stranded on the red planet. Scott stated, "It's like 'Robinson Crusoe' -- if you were marooned or shipwrecked, how do you survive?" The film is an adaptation of the 2011 novel by Andy Weir. Filming begins later this year, for a November 2015 released date.
Ridley Scott is the British director behind such films as "Alien," "Legend," "Thelma and Louise," "Gladiator," "Black Hawk Down," "Kingdom of Heaven," "American Gangster," "Prometheus" and "Exodus," which will be released on December 12, 2014.
