Although Titanfall 2 does not yet have an official announcement from game developer Respawn Entertainment or publisher EA, it seems that retailer GameStop just made that announcement instead, thanks to in-store ads that promote pre-release sales, including that specific title.
One GameStop shopper discovered the ad, took a photo of it and posted it to Twitter as confirmation of the game's existence, a sequel to 2014's Titanfall.
This isn't the first confirmation of the game, though: Respawn confirmed it was working on it last year. However, the company remained quiet about game details, as well as its release, although it's likely that an official announcement will come soon, especially with retailers such as GameStop already making plans on promoting the presale of it.
"I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or ... yeah," said Respawn founder and CEO Vince Zampella to IGN in March 2015. "So we're working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform."
Titanfall is a multiplayer first-person shooter game for Windows PC and Xbox One that gives players control over pilots as well as their mechs, called Titans. Gameplay involves fighting matches against other players in the outer space colonies. The game proved successful with both gamers and critics and took home over 60 awards when revealed at E3 in 2013. As of October 2015, the game sold over 10 million units.
With that kind of success, it was always likely that the title would eventually get a sequel. However, most interesting about Titanfall 2 is that, instead of being an Xbox One exclusive on consoles, though, Titanfall 2 will also support the PlayStation 4, as well as PCs.
MacFarlane Toys announced a new Titanfall line of action figures for later this year, too.
"MacFarlane Toys will be releasing toys inspired by Titanfall in Winter of 2016," said EA in a statement to GameSpot. "We have yet to provide a release date for the next Titanfall experience from Respawn."
