Lady Gaga may not have taken home an Oscar statuette for the song "Til It Happens To You" which she co-wrote with Diane Warren and was nominated for the Best Music (Original Song) category but she did move people to tears with her performance of it during the Academy Awards Ceremony on Feb. 28.
In her performance, Lady Gaga was noticeably subdued owing to the fact that "Til It Happens To You" is a song full of raw emotions and communicates a heavy but meaningful message of utmost importance. Towards the end of her performance, the singer-songwriter was joined on stage by sexual assault survivors who bravely faced the crowd.
Who else would be the most moved but Brie Larson who received a nomination and won Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role as a sexual assault and kidnap victim for seven years in the film "Room." Lady Gaga's performance received a long standing ovation and Larson was seen embracing all the victims of abuse as a form of support when they passed by her.

The song is attached to the documentary film, "The Hunting Ground," which follows alleged incidences of sexual assault in college campuses in the United States, and its message is basically a direct response to the more callous remarks and advice given by people who has not experienced assault.
Vice President Joe Biden took to the stage to introduce the performance and spoke about the White House's "It's On Us Campaign" and urged everyone to intervene in situations that may possibly lead to assault.
"Too many women and men on and off of college campuses are still victims of abuse... Take the pledge: I will intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given. We must, and we can, change the culture," he vice president said.
She may not have won the Oscar but Lady Gaga sure made a powerful statement on that stage. Even Kesha expressed her gratitude for the singer and love for the performance.
Lady Gaga has openly supported Kesha with regard to the recent legal battle she lost against Sony in which the "Die Young" singer revealed that her producer, Dr. Luke, had abused her sexually and verbally.
