The LTE model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 on Verizon is now getting a software update, which includes the latest security patches for February.
It's nearly the end of the month, yet Verizon is only now rolling out the update for the Galaxy Tab S2 LTE. Nevertheless, it's better late than never and the new update should improve the device's overall stability and performance.
As Verizon notes on its support page for the tablet, the new update brings the Galaxy Tab S2's software version to LMY47X.T817VVRS2APB2. This version is currently the most secure build when it comes to protecting the device from attacks and viruses.
Aside from the February security patches, the latest Galaxy Tab S2 update also promises to improve performance and bring some bug fixes.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches," says Big Red.
The update is rolling now over-the-air (OTA), which means that it may take a while for it to reach all devices. OTA updates are always gradual and device owners will receive a notification when the package is ready to download and install. Alternately, users can also manually check for the update's availability by accessing the device's Settings > About > Check for new software updates.
As always, Verizon recommends updating the device over a stable Wi-Fi network and having the tablet fully charged before proceeding.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is widely considered one of the best tablets under $500, competing with the iPad Mini 4, the Google Nexus 9 and other contenders in this category.
The Galaxy Tab S2 comes in two versions with different screen sizes - one with an 8-inch display and the other with a large 9.7-inch panel. It has a thin and light profile, a 4:3 aspect ratio and promises to deliver a good performance without breaking the bank.
Samsung is also expected to release a Tab S2 successor this year, but no official details are available in this regard just yet. A recent Galaxy Tab S3 benchmark revealed some exciting specs, including high QHD resolution and Android Marshmallow on board, but it remains to be seen whether it turns out to be accurate.
