'Spaceballs 2' Teaser Posters Appear In New York Subway Station, But Is It Just A Cruel Prank?

The fact that director Mel Brooks wants to make a sequel to his comedy classic Spaceballs isn't new. However, is it actually happening?

The recent appearance of teaser posters for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money, which reportedly can be found in a single New York City subway station, have some speculating that the sequel to the 1987 Star Wars spoof may finally become a reality. Nobody is quite sure where the posters came from, as so far, nobody has claimed responsibility for them. Since there doesn't appear to be any movement behind the scenes about Spaceballs 2 actually becoming official, it looks like these posters might just be an elaborate fan prank.

Even so, it's a good one. The poster takes the title of the film from a line featured in the first movie, and even spoofs the melted Darth Vader helmet seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The straightforward "The Teaser Poster" text at the bottom of the image seems perfectly in line with Mel Brooks as well. Though there does seem to be a high likelihood that these posters are fake, they are at least well done.

Here is what the director recently had to say about the idea of Spaceballs 2:

"And I'm thinking now, if I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out — maybe a couple of months later — I'd have a big weekend, you know? No matter what, even if it fell on its ass and didn't get its money back... but that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would ... I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he'd do it, and I've still got me."

While the entire cast wouldn't be able to return (John Candy, Dick Van Patten and Joan Rivers have all passed away), if Rick Moranis and others would sign on, it would certainly be a sight to see. Brooks hasn't directed a film since 1995's Dracula: Dead and Loving It.
