Google has plans to make things easier for cord-cutters, teaming up with Vizio to integrate the media streaming device's functionality with TVs.
Chromecast has been well received by consumers everywhere, as the little dongle allows them to conveniently cast videos, websites and anything else along those lines from their computers, tablets or smartphones to it and view them on their TV sets.
It has been quite the noodle scratcher for many regarding why it's not a built-in feature in TVs, and apparently, Google thinks so too.
The buzz comes from Variety, and according to the website, Vizio TV viewers will soon be able to send content from PC and other smart devices to their big screens at the tap of a button. Long story short, TV sets of the company will include the guts and functionality of the Chromecast inside.
Variety continues to say these TVs could roll out sometime this spring. The TVs could also be bundled with a tablet instead of the traditional remote control. On top of that, the smart slab could feature apps for streaming videos, but nothing's set in stone yet.
In the same vein, Google is reportedly working things out with another manufacturer to launch similar TV sets. If that holds true, then these efforts more or less indicate how the company intends to make Chromecast-enabled TVs a new standard of sorts.
What about Android TV? Well, it's certainly far more capable than the Chromecast, but it didn't exactly pan out. Google's dongle met great success because of how it's affordable, functional and fairly simple to use. In other words, a TV with Chromecast features will likely turn out to be a cheaper choice compared to an Android TV.
It's also worth mentioning that Vizio dabbled with the TV-connected dongle game as well, making something like the Roku that was running on the Yahoo Connected TV. However, that didn't pan out mainly because Yahoo is shutting the platform down as the company attempts to rebuild itself.
Nevertheless, Google's Chromecast seems to be the natural choice for Vizio, as it came out on top compared to the likes of the Apple TV, Fire TV and Roku.
