LG is all prepared to unveil its new flagship smartphone - the LG G5 - at the upcoming Mobile World Congress event, and newest leaked renders give a glimpse of how the handset may look like.
A number of leaked images of the upcoming LG G5 have been surfacing online for several months, but the latest ones from Evan Blass (@evleaks) are very impressive.
The new photos of the purported LG G5 show the fingerprint scanner at the back of the mobile phone just under the bumpy dual camera. The volume buttons are located at the side of the smartphone. The G5 logo is seen on the lower rear part of the device.
On the front of the handset, an LG logo can also be seen at the bottom. The selfie camera is located at the top left, and the speaker grill smack in the upper middle area of the display bezel. There is also a sensor just below the speaker grill and its function remains unknown for now.
Overall, the design of the LG G5 seems different than its predecessor, the LG G4.
LG missed launching its LG G4 at the 2015 MWC, which was beneficial to rivals. However, LG does not want to miss the party this year. The company is optimistic that its upcoming flagship will challenge competitors, especially arch rival Samsung.
"The unveiling of LG's new flagship handset was delayed months after the release of the new Samsung flagship handset," said an unnamed LG executive. "But this year will be different. LG Electronics is ready to take on Samsung."
LG has also launched a teaser page for the LG G5, where interested buyers can register their interest in getting more details about the next-gen flagship smartphone.
It is not long before LG officially launches the G5 and here are some rumors of the upcoming phone.
Specifications
Display - The LG G5 is rumored to sport either a 5.5-inch or a 5.6-inch True HD IPS flexible touchscreen with 4K display resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels.
Processor And RAM - The LG G5 is speculated to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM.
Storage - The LG offering may come with 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB on-board memory. Owners will be able to increase the storage capacity of the phone with a microSD card.
Eye Scanner - LG is said to be working IRIENCE, a Korean firm that specializes in eye-scanning technology. Speculations are high that IRIENCE is making an eye scanner to be used in the G5. The latest leaked render suggests that there is an unknown sensor under the speaker grill. This sensor could be that eye scanner used for, perhaps, unlocking the phone.
Camera - The LG G4 has a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. If rumors are to be believed, then the LG G5 will have a 20-megapixel primary camera.
Battery - The LG G5 might come with a massive 4,000 mAh battery, but some rumors suggest that the battery capacity will be in the 2,800 mAh region.
Operating System - The LG device is highly likely to come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system straight out of the box.
Colors - The leaked renders suggests that the LG G5 will be available in black and white color options. There is also the possibility that the smartphone maker could initially launch the handset in two colors and then introduce more colors in the near term.
Price And Availability
Previous rumors point out that the LG G5 will have a premium price tag of about $900.
The LG G4 was released in Korea just within a day when it was unveiled. It took the device more than a month to reach other regions. Customers can just hope that LG will release the G5 soon after its official launch on Sunday.
Carrier Availability In The U.S.
The LG G5 is expected to hit all major carriers in the U.S., including Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T. Individual carriers are expected to confirm their own release date of the smartphone.
