The world was shocked when Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey and won the Bantamweight Championship belt on Nov. 14, 2015 and, while people seem to think Rousey brushed off her loss, the former champion finally opened up to Ellen DeGeneres when she appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Feb. 16 and admitted that suicidal thoughts entered her mind.
It is obvious that no one is more shocked by the huge upset than Rousey who has kept herself busy preparing for the chance to go against Holm again. Ellen first asked Rousey about the match itself and the title holder said she does not remember much of the fight.
"It's hard to really know what's going on. In that first hit I cut up my whole mouth and I knocked my teeth loose [...] I felt like almost I couldn't see [...] I was swinging blindly. I knew she was out there, but, like, I really don't remember most of it," Rousey recounted.
When Ellen asked about her loss to Holm, Rousey revealed that Holm's hit had a far worse effect on her than people imagined and she also revealed that she contemplated suicide after the match.
"Honestly, my thought [...] I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself," Rousey confessed. She also revealed that what made her abandon the idea was the presence of her boyfriend, Travis Browne, in the medical room as she was being treated. Her thoughts then transformed from committing suicide to being determined to stay alive so they can have a family together.
She also shared that she chooses to stay undefeated in spite of her loss. While she is referring to a possible rematch with Holm, she also means that she did not want her loss to define her.
"I really do believe that I'm still undefeated because being defeated is a choice... Everyone has losses in their life but I choose to always be undefeated," Rousey concluded.
