Ronda Rousey was having a blast on Saturday Night Live while, at the same time, the blizzard that is called Jonas, otherwise known as snowzilla, was covering sections of the United States in heavy snow and ice.
This is the first time the UFC champion has done something interesting after she was handed a tumbling blow by Holly Holms in her last fight. Despite the loss, she admitted that Holms deserved to win, and rightfully so because she was the better fighter all around that night.
With the defeat in mind, Ronda Rousey got the chance to go all out on bullies in a sketch. This is probably the closest we'll see the champion in a fighting stance until later in the year when she'll go up against Holms once more in a bid to regain her title and pride.
We've seen the sketches, and honestly, they weren't that funny. There's one called Bland Man where a man goes on a date with several women in hopes to find the best one to spend the rest of his life with. This sketch includes Ronda Rousey and Selena Gomez.
Each time the women come to see this Bland Man, they all utter the same opening statement. "Can I steal him for a sec?" then they proceed to say, "I like this" and from there he would say "me too." Honestly, it got boring really fast, but this is what SNL has become in recent times so nothing too surprising here.
What's more shocking is the opening monologue, that's even less funny when compared to other sketches of the night. Now, we're not blaming Ronda Rousey for being utterly unfunny in each and every sketch, but rather the Saturday Night Live comedy writers for consistently doing a bad job.
This was the perfect place for Rousey to let loose after her shocking defeat to Holms. It was also a spot for her to show off her acting chops, and that didn't work out because it was bad.
At the end of the day, it was great to see Rousey back in the limelight. Her defeat drew a lot of criticism by folks who thought she was always too cocky both in the ring and out.
