ReddX for Xbox One is the first and only app for Reddit that is built for TV. It is optimized to work compatibly with Kinect's Voice and Gesture and with Xbox One's Gamepad, Media Remote, and SmartGlass device.
Larry Hyrb of Xbox says that ReddX is the first app that has been built exclusively for a console. Another app, known as Reddit, is designed to make easier browsing of Reddit using a controller.
At the site's front page, users can see the topics on the left side of the Reddx app. On the other hand, users can view images, GIFs, and YouTube videos on the right as they become automatically loaded. Users can easily manipulate the size of pictures by zooming in. They can also skip through videos and "play" with animated GIFs which users can fast-forward, rewind, or even pause. Owners of Xbox One with Kinect can use its voice-reactive camera in controlling ReddX. This means that they are allowed to downvote anything that they dislike by just screaming and venting it out on the TV. Of course, they can also upvote a content that they like. Users that have the Kinect-less Xbox One bundles will have to settle using their controllers or a device that has the Xbox SmartGlass app in order for them to log in and give comments. Furthermore, users can customize their profile by using saved photos. Even images can be saved and be used as the ReddX app background.
Together with the ReddX app, Microsoft is also gearing up to add new features to the Twitch app found in Xbox One. The new feature, dubbed as "watch with friends," will allow Xbox One users to see and watch the Twitch channels that are also being viewed by their friends. It can display "real time content" that are viewed by up to six friends. There's also an optional feature that will allow Kinect to focus and zoom on the user's face during broadcasting. Audio can easily be captured and recognized through the user's headset as well.
Another interesting app that is launching together with ReddX is MTV. Together with a TV subscription, the app features bonus clips, sneak peeks, culture news, full episodes, and behind-the-scenes from certain MTV series.
These apps are just among the 45 new entertainment features designed for the console which were announced in June. ReddX is landing on Xbox One within twenty four hours. Microsoft will be launching the Twitch and the MTV apps in the not so distant future.
