Hulu app has finally landed on Windows 10. In collaboration with Microsoft, Hulu has introduced its universal Windows 10 app, which comes with Cortana support for smartphones, tablets and PC.
Just to be clear, there already exists a Windows 8.1 version of the app that is compatible with Windows 10, and a Windows Phone 8 app that works with Windows 10 Mobile. As opposed to these individual apps, the newly rolled out single app works across different devices.
If, for instance, you downloaded and installed the new version of Hulu from the Windows Store, the app will automatically adapt its user interface to the device you are using.
This may be a good announcement for most users, but bad news, though, for Xbox One users. Greg Sullivan, Windows' senior manager, tells VentureBeat that the most-recent version of Hulu does not provide support for this gaming console.
How To Use The Hulu App On Windows 10
You can use the Hulu app by directly typing the name of your favorite show or episode into the app. You can also use Cortana voice commands to start watching your shows.
Initially, Cortana can perform limited tasks on the app. For instance, the artificially intelligent assistant can help you look for shows or episodes you like, play the shows for you and add them to the Queue or Favorite section. Simply say "Hey Cortana" followed by your voice command.
What makes the app brilliant is that apart from playing an episode for you, it can also launch the episode where you had previously paused it. If you are following a series, the app will play the next episode.
Live Tiles Support
The new version of Hulu also brings in Live Tiles support. This feature allows users to pin the app to their Start menu. Moreover, Live Tiles will also display recommended shows to stream.
Ben Smith, senior vice president of User Experience at Hulu, says these Live Tiles will eventually be beefed up to provide a more customized experience for the users. The company is looking forward to add the ability to display the TV programs or episodes you love to watch and their corresponding images.
At the moment, this updated version of the app is only available to those who live in the United States.
