LG To Unwrap X Cam And X Screen Midrange Smartphones At MWC 2016

LG is all set to unveil its next flagship smartphone, the LG G5, in a Feb. 21 event before the Mobile World Congress 2016.

The LG G5 is not the only new smartphone that the company is planning to introduce, however, as LG said that it will also be launching the first two models of its X series at MWC 2016.

The two smartphones, named the X cam and the X screen, are described as midrange devices that do not have the specifications and features of today's high-end smartphones but still pack a top-of-the-line camera or display. Both devices will also be released with Android 6.0 Marshmallow installed.

The X cam, according to LG, will feature dual rear-facing cameras with a curved finish made possible by the 3D Bending Glass of LG. The X cam also has a profile of only 5.2 millimeters and weighs only 118 grams, which is very light compared with most midrange smartphones.

The X cam features a 5.2-inch FHD display and is powered by a 1.14 GHz octa-core chipset with 2 GB of RAM. Available colors are white, gold, pink gold and titan silver.

While the X cam focuses on the camera, the X screen, on the other hand, focuses on the smartphone's display. The X screen features the always-on second screen that has only been previously seen in the high-end LG V10. The 1.76-inch second screen is located above the 4.93-inch HD main display of the X cam, and allows users to carry out multitasking actions such as accessing apps, answering calls and playing music, without disrupting the ongoing activity on the main display.

The second screen of the X screen also allows users to check information such as the date, time, battery status and other notifications on the X screen.

The X screen is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core chipset and 2 GB of RAM. Available colors are white, black and pink gold.

"Everyone has a favorite smartphone feature," said LG Mobile CEO and President Juno Cho.

"At LG, we think there's room for devices that do one thing very well and that customers shouldn't have to pay for features that they don't want. At the end of the day, we're committed to offering consumers more choices," he added.

The X cam and X screen will be launched in select markets in Latin America, Europe and Asia next month, with no word yet on when the midrange smartphones will be coming to the United States.
