'Destiny' writer to work on 'Game of Thrones' game

One voice behind the upcoming science fiction epic Destiny has decided he would rather write fantasy.

Joshua Rubin has left Bungie to join Telltale Games, to write for the developer's video game adaptation of Game of Thrones. He is leaving the future of the franchise in the hands of Joseph Staten and the rest of the creative team at Bungie.

Rubin told Gamasutra, "In the end, Bungie makes games about shooting aliens in the head. And while there's a true art to 'writing between the bullets' -- as Mr. Staten once said -- I couldn't turn down an offer from Telltale, to create games that are entirely about story."

Telltale Games is known for its story-based on games, such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, where the player's choices directly affect the plot and the characters in the games.

Of course, he is departing Bungie right before Destiny is released September 9, where it will likely be one of the biggest games this year. Destiny is an online multiplayer RPG shooter.

Rubin has worked on a number of games as a writer. He is known for writing the script for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II, from 2009. Just prior to joining Bungie two years ago, he worked a year at Capcom on an unannounced game and a year at EA developer Visceral Games, best known for the Dead Space series, on an unannounced sequel.

The first episode of Telltale's Game of Thrones series is expected to be released end of 2014 or early 2015.
