'Star Wars' Goes LEGO With New Series Coming To Disney XD

The galaxy far far away just got nearer because a new "LEGO Star Wars" series is coming to Disney XD this summer, according to a statement released in the official "Star Wars" website on Feb. 11. "LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures" is another comedic but action-packed addition to the "Star Wars" universe and it will feature new heroes and villains as well as some characters we are all already familiar with.

"LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures" is set between "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" and tells the story of a scavenger family whose business is to build and sell Starships from debris and does not really have anything to do with the fight between the Empire and the Rebels. That is, until the youngest in the family discovers that he has a connection with the Force.

The discovery was made when the youngest Freemaker made contact with an ancient artifact called the Kyber Saber and, from that point on, the whole family is thrown into a battle against the Empire as they try to help balance the Force while learning the importance of family.

"We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that's always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch," Lucasfilm Vice President for Animation Development Carrie Beck said.

"The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure [...] with the creativity, imagination, and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver," LEGO Group Vice President for Licensing & Entertainment Jill Wilfert expressed.

"LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures" is the first "LEGO Star Wars" television series to be launched in Disney XD.
