Action Comics #1 is on the auction block and is expected to sell for millions

It looks like it is up, up and away for a copy of "Action Comics # 1" when it goes on the auction block. The CGC (Certified Guaranty Co.) has the book graded at an astounding 9.0, making the comic the highest quality book in the world.

The first appearance of Superman from June 1938 is the Holy Grail of comic books, introducing the first real superhero to the masses. It set the tone for all other superheroes and is still a trailblazer 76 years later.

According to Variety, a copy of "Action Comics # 1" has been put up for auction on eBay on August 14th with a substantial portion of the final price going to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. The opening bid on the item was a staggering $1 million and it is expected to go much higher. The comic, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, is still the gold standard in all of comics. And at a stellar 9.0 rating, this is a rare gem-a once in a lifetime comic.

The auction ends on August 24, and according to experts, the price of the book could easily double on the auction block. The comic is a rarity, especially in this condition and it is believed to be one of just 50 unrestored original copies in existence. Bids for the book have already shot up to $1.65 million on eBay, and there is no ceiling too high for this piece of Americana. Superman embodies the American dream and is synonymous with the word "superhero." After all, Superman is the original superhero that set the template for every other super character ever created.

"The quality and preservation of this Action No. 1 is astounding," Paul Litch, CGC Primary Grader, said in a statement last month. "The book looks and feels like it just came off the newsstand. It is supple, the colors are deep and rich and the quality of the white pages is amazing for a comic that is 76 years old."

Collectibles dealer Darren Adams is auctioning off the book, who calls it "the Mona Lisa of comics and stands alone as the most valuable comic book ever printed."
