Range Rover Sport SVR, Land Rover's beauty and brawn creation

The uber-fast Range Rover Sport SVR - touted as the "most powerful" and "most dynamically focused" Land Rover ever - has finally made its debut.

On Thursday, August 14, the Range Rover Sport SVR debuted at Pebble Beach giving enthusiasts a peek into Land Rover's 550-horsepower labor of love.

"The Range Rover Sport SVR is a natural progression beyond the core vehicle's outstanding on- and off-road capabilities and leading-edge design. Its exhilarating performance will satisfy a particularly demanding customer set," revealed John Edwards, Managing Director of Land Rover's Special Operations.

The Range Rover Sport SVR, the brainchild of the Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations team, is a follow up on the Range Rover Sport. The vehicle boasts an all-aluminum monocoque, which is a first in this segment. This feature reduces the weight of the Range Rover Sport SVR by a whopping 39 percent, when compared to the predecessor.

The standout feature, however, is that the Range Rover Sport SVR is capable of hitting 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds! The speed can go all the way up to 162 mph. The SVR also deploys a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine, which can produce 550PS and 680Nm (considerable 40PS and 56Nm increases) and not compromise on the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

Coupled with the ZF 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission, the SVR is also capable of balancing engine performance with smooth driving that is synonymous with the Range Rover line-up.

Land Rover has also given the Range Rover Sport SVR a revised robust chassis to take on any weather conditions, yet maintained the refinement and luxury. Moreover, the SVR comes armed with a "two-stage active exhaust" that boasts valves which are controlled electronically - a first for Land Rover. Yet another distinctive feature of the SVR is the 22-inch alloy wheels that have performance-optimized 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tires.

The SVR can house five individuals as well as cargo, and also packs in a new front bumper and an aluminum wing panel. The vehicle also has four exhaust pipes which apparently can produce "racecar-inspired" sounds.

Jaguar Land Rover is yet to reveal the price of the Range Rover Sport SVR. The SVR is anticipated to go on sale in October this year (post the Paris Motor Show) and the first delivery is expected to start by early 2015.
