Microsoft brings a major update to the Bing mobile app for iPhone and Android following the company's update on the Bing logo just three weeks ago. The update on the app brings a number of new features to the search engine.
Bing says that its updated app brings together the information needed by customers, connect to trusted apps and help in doing certain things faster.
Bing for Android gives users the ability to get snapshots of information, available on-tap and in-text, while using other apps.
The Bing update will enable Android and iPhone users to shop easily and faster but at the same time also save money.
iPhone and Android users get a new barcode scanner in the Bing app, which allows scanning of barcodes and comparing the price of the product online on major retailers. Users can launch the barcode scanner by long-pressing the search icon and selecting the camera, which pops out. Users will then have to point their device's camera at a product's barcode.
"We'll find if it in our database and return prices and customer ratings from major retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and others. We source our data from multiple retailers, so you can be truly certain in your purchase decision," says Bing.
Users of the 3D Touch-enabled iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be able to access barcode scanning from their device's home screen.
Bing's integration with GasBuddy will also allow users to find the lowest gas price in an area. This feature makes gas buying easier for customers who are not familiar with an area.
iPhone users will be able to experience a dedicated deals feature, which will allow them to browse various offers as well as coupons based on various categories. Bing will show deals directly in the search results. The feature can be used while shopping, making dinner or lunch plans and more. The feature will be rolled out to Android in the near term.
Bing Search for iOS is available as a free download from the App Store. The app weighs about 35 MB and currently supports English only. The Bing app is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running on iOS 8.0 or above.
Bing for Android has been updated on Thursday and the download file weighs only 14 MB. The app is available as a free download from the Play Store and users should have a device running on Android 4.0 or higher.
None of the new features are available on Windows 10 Mobile.
