It seems hard to believe, but Bethesda Softworks' reboot of the Doom franchise will arrive in just a few short months.
Players have waited for a really long time for a new Doom, and today, the developer not only released a new trailer showing off the game in all its gory detail, but also announced that the title will hit store shelves on May 13 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Bethesda worked on the game, previously known as Doom 4, for years, and it went through several incarnations before this final version. Many players gave up on it ever seeing the light of day, but it seems that miracles do happen: Doom is officially here.
The Doom campaign trailer shows off some of what players can expect when they pick up the title in May.
Warning: The following video is bloody, violent and disturbing (and awesome), which, obviously, makes it a worthy successor to the Doom franchise.
"Developed by id Software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre and created multiplayer Deathmatch, Doom returns as a brutally fun and challenging modern-day shooter experience," writes Bethesda on its website. "Relentless demons, impossibly destructive guns, and fast, fluid movement provide the foundation for intense, first-person combat - whether you're obliterating demon hordes through the depths of Hell in the single-player campaign, or competing against your friends in numerous multiplayer modes."
The new Doom will also have a collector's edition with a metal case and a 12-inch Revenant statue with an LED-lit base and a spinning turbine. That edition retails for $119.99 in the U.S.
Those players who preorder the standard or collector's editions also get the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which includes a demon armor set, three skin variations, six metallic paint colors, three id logo patterns for weapons and armor and six Hack Modules.
Players wanting to get a sneak peek at Doom's gameplay can watch Conan O'Brien's show at 11 p.m. EST tonight, Feb. 4, on TBS. O'Brien will play the game with several football players from this year's Super Bowl as part of his "Clueless Gamer" segment.
