HTC revealed net losses of up to $101 million on its latest earnings report for the fiscal period of Q4 2015.
Revenues showed a slight improvement of 20 percent compared to the third quarter. However, it is still considerably lower than what the company earned in the same quarter of 2014 by 46 percent.
The company credits its One A9 handset as the reason for the slight jump. With a starting price of $499, the device reportedly brought in $314 million in revenue to the company for the month of November.
While this figure can be impressive, it should be noted that the jump only shows a month-to-month performance of the device. Furthermore, the One A9 may not be able to sustain its success in 2016 when a number of huge manufacturers are gearing up for the release of their respective flagships.
The report also revealed a quarterly operating loss of NT$4.1 billion (around $123.6 million), with operating margin recorded at -16.1 percent.
According to HTC, its Desire line of handsets enjoyed good momentum in the fourth quarter, which had become more noticeable during the holiday shopping season. The company added that its premium One A9 handset launched in October performed really well across the regions of Europe, Asia and the United States.
HTC said that it is continuing its realignment scheme as an ongoing program in order to maintain the respective resources that are needed in all of its business ventures.
"Leveraging our core strengths of design, engineering and manufacturing excellence, our evolution into virtual reality and connected devices has positioned us as innovation leader in each sector," says Cher Wang, HTC's CEO and chairwoman. "We are fully confident in delivering on our promise to enable consumers to pursue their own brilliance across all of our product groups."
In the meantime, CFO Chialin Chang says that the company may begin to see any improvements most probably in the second quarter of 2016. This means HTC may follow up its latest fiscal report with another disappointing result for its Q1 2015 earnings call.
It is also speculated that HTC will officially announce the One M10, its next flagship, at a press event after the Mobile World Congress in March. The decision to launch the device during this period may have been the result of the company's earnings prediction for the first quarter, which doesn't seem to be any different from the last fiscal report.
