Sony Unwraps A6300 Camera: Fastest Autofocus, 24.2MP Sensor, 4K Recording

Sony Electronics has introduced a new camera - the A6300 - to its award-winning mirrorless camera lineup.

The latest A6300 camera borrows the external design aspects from the A6000; however, the A6300 has a faster autofocus, more intelligent and also supports 4K video recording.

Neal Manowitz, the VP of Digital Imaging at Sony Electronics, says that the latest A6300 is an example of dominant innovation that the company successfully brings to the camera industry, especially to the mirrorless segment.

"With this new model, we've combined the world's fastest and most extensive AF system with a superb image sensor and many of our most advanced imaging and video technologies, creating a package that can far exceed the performance of any DSLR in its class. This camera connects you with the action like never before," says Manowitz.

Here are some of the new features of the A6300 camera:

Autofocus

Sony has expanded the number of phase-detection points to 425 in the A6300. During the launch event of the A6300, Sony also hired two boxers, a live band and a basketball player for demonstrating the 425 phase-detection autofocus points. The A6300 can autofocus in just 0.05 seconds, which Sony claims to be the fastest autofocus in the world.

Video

The A6300 supports 4K video recording to a SD card. The Sony camera uses the XAVC S codec while shooting video, which records 4K videos at 100Mbps and Full HD videos 50 Mbps. The camera also focuses about twice as fast while shooting movies in comparison to its predecessor. The A6300 offers high 120 frames per second of video recording.

Sensor

The A6300 is equipped with a 24.2-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, which works with the BIONZ X image processing engine for producing high-quality images. The camera has an ISO sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 51200.

LCD, Viewfinder And Mode Dial

The display of the A6300 flips up for easy selfie capturing. The viewfinder has a higher resolution and short blackout period while continuous shooting. The mode dial of A6300 is also up to date with current features.

The latest Sony camera support NFC and Wi-Fi. The camera is also compatible with the company's PlayMemories Mobile app for iOS and Android.

Sony has confirmed that the A6300 will be available from March onwards. The body only will have a price tag of $1000. Customers will have the option to purchase the camera with a 16-50mm F3.5 - F5.6 kit lens for $1150.
