The Editor Of Marvel's 'Star Wars' Comics Says He Has An Idea For A Jar Jar Binks Series

Marvel's Star Wars comics have proven to be a huge success for the publisher. Star Wars #1 was the best-selling comic of 2015, and multiple Star Wars books continued to break the top 10 best-selling comics month after month.

With that kind of success, 2016 is sure to be another big year for Star Wars comic fans. We already know about the upcoming Poe Dameron comic, but what other characters might get their own series?

According to Star Wars comic editor Jordan White, maybe, just maybe, Jar Jar Binks. While discussing the future of Marvel's Star Wars books with IGN, the subject of White having previously mentioned an idea for a Jar Jar comic came up. Here's what White had to say about the possibility:

"I don't anticipate it happening any time soon, because you'll be shocked to hear not everyone loves Jar Jar," White tells IGN. "[Laughs] But I do have one. Sure, why not? I think there's a way to use every character and make them interesting and to do fun things with them. And the idea I've got for him I think is very much in keeping with his character and in keeping with what he is and what he does in that world, and yet it's a pretty fun and entertaining thing that I think fans would enjoy. So yeah, I don't want to say too much. [Laughs] It is kind of twisted, I will say."

Despite the character being a bit of a sore spot for many fans of the franchise, Jar Jar did make headlines in the weeks leading up to the release of The Force Awakens thanks to a popular fan theory that pegged the bumbling Gungan as a powerful Sith lord in disguise.

A humorous, self-aware take on the character could work for a comic mini-series or one-shot issue, but so far, Disney has been hesitant to put much emphasis on the Star Wars prequels. Even if there isn't a Jar Jar comic, White teases in the interview that numerous other mini-series set in the galaxy far, far away will be coming this year.
