The one good thing about the first Star Wars prequel, The Phantom Menace, is the introduction of podracing. Someone’s gone and taken that one good thing and brought it to Halo 5 courtesy of a custom map.
See, Halo 5’s Forge allows players to use maps, and a good number of these are just attempts to completely break the game in one way or another. Often as not, it’s to play the game as it was never intended. That seems to be what CaptainDireWolf was going for when he made the “Boonta Eve” map.
A video recorded by the Epidemic showcases CaptainDireWolf’s map in all its glory — starting with the initially racing setup where all the podracers are lined up and waiting to go. Kind of surprisingly, a number of them actually resemble those from the movie. Sebulba’s is fairly obvious, as is Anakin’s.
Really, they’re all just Ghosts — little floating vehicles used mainly by the Covenant in the series — using a glitch to cobble together parts onto their chassis. They accelerate like Ghosts around the map, and the added podracer bits are sometimes more trouble than they’re worth. The video notes that Sebulba’s frontend is particularly painful to try and squeeze through tight spots.
There’s also apparently no actual … game to the map. It’s not set in the game as a race, and there’s no real point to it beyond playing in the sandbox. One could zoom about and race with friends without the actual rules in place. Added bonus? Dying teleports players to a spot where they can take potshots at other racers similar to the Tusken raiders of the film series.
