Twitter is expanding its access ... even to users who are logged out or people who aren't signed up for the social media network at all.
On Tuesday, Twitter announced that it's launching a home timeline to people across 23 countries who visit twitter.com on their smartphones, giving them the ability to check out news stories as they happen in real-time and also jump right into discussions as they're happening — even if they're not signed in or signed up.
Prior to this announcement, people could only see individual tweets, but couldn't discover stories or click into conversations happening on twitter.com without signing in. That changed Tuesday, as people can now discover breaking news stories, as well as see conversations and whatever's trending.
Also, prior to this announcement, the access was only given to the United States and Japan. Now, it will stretch to the United Kingdom, India and Australia, just to name a few of the 23 countries being included.
Twitter gets over 500 million monthly visitors who check out breaking news, videos gone viral and jump into conversations in real-time.
With the update and the access to nearly two dozen additional countries, Twitter will expand its reach to those visiting the twitter.com homepage on their smartphones.
"We're passionate about bringing you the best conversations, news, and stories as they happen around the world," the company said as part of its announcement. "This is the next step towards that vision. We hope you enjoy these homepage changes and experience a better glimpse of the best of Twitter."
Mobile users will see this change on Twitter's iOS and Android apps.
