FX Heralds The Return Of 'Archer' With Magnum PI Spoof

Suave superspy Sterling Archer is returning on FX for a 13-episode seventh season on March 31. To commemorate the new season, FX released a "Magnum P.I." credits spoof featuring the cast of "Archer" on Feb. 1.

Archer, is of course, the lead and he makes for a very convincing Tom Selleck, moustache and all. The spoof is a shot-for shot remake of Selleck's Hawaiian-shirt-wearing Thomas Magnum of the 1980's television crime drama, "Magnum P.I."

The preview shows Archer clad in different disguises, driving a sports car, taking photos as Lana pilots a chopper, among other antics - all of which turn out to be figments of his imagination. The parody concludes with everyone in International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) gathered around the table as Archer uses toys to visually explain his adventure.

Watch the animated comedy's homage to "Magnum P.I." below.

"Archer P.I. Always ready to screw his enemies in private. He's back in business Thurs, March 31 on FX," the official Archer Twitter account posted.

Late in 2015, speculations arose indicating that "Archer" will be moved to FXX. It appears FX changed its mind and decided to keep the rowdy bunch of spies in its first home network.

Here's a quick guide for those who unfamiliar with the animated adult comedy:

Sterling Archer is a suave but self-centered superspy. He's very able though, much like James Bond. Archer is the number one agent of ISIS but, in truth, he only holds that title because his mother, Malory Archer, runs ISIS. The real bumber one spy is his fiancé, Lana Kane, who's frustrated that she is treated only as Archer's wife.

The setting is comically anachronistic. That is, instead of settling on a specific time period, it deliberately mixes fashion and technology from various decades and veers away from historical facts. It routinely references pop culture and is so downright funny that it won a Primetime Emmy and Critic's Choice Award.

"Archer" returns on FX on March 31.
