Robert Kazinsky, who plays Orgrim Doomhammer in "Warcraft: The Beginning," revealed to Conan O'Brien on Jan. 29 that the game World of Warcraft saved his life when he was constantly disliked due to the role he played in the British soap opera, EastEnders.
Kazinsky said that, during his stint as Sean, the tough, bad guy, he was physically and verbally attacked by random people on the streets or in establishments no matter who he was with. He also said that some intoxicated people would just punch him in the head or throw stones or bread at him. Some even insulted him even when he was having a nice dinner with his parents.
It got to a point when Kazinsky was afraid for his life and did not want to face the public, so much so that he opted to stay in his house all day and play games. That was when he discovered World of Warcraft.
He said that, even if people judged him in the game, players were doing it anonymously not because of his appearance so he knew it had nothing to do with his role on television. Likewise, he was able to meet new people and began to feel better about his life.
"I was able to forge new relationships and I was slowly given these rewards that believe it or not, gave me confidence, the boost. Before you know it, I was able to have a little bit of self-belief again. I credit World of Warcraft with saving my life," he said.
Of course, just playing World of Warcraft all day had its price. Kazinsky said he gained about 50 pounds during those two years but it was the happiest time of his life because he was not trying to live up to anyone's expectations. Watch the interview below.
"Warcraft: The Beginning" will be in cinemas on June 10.
