Since learning that American Horror Story was picked up for a sixth season on FX, fans have been speculating what the next theme could be. From serial killers and creepy clowns to vampires and voodoo witches, the popular horror series has featured many different faces meant to give us a good scare throughout the seasons.
And now it appears like season 6 will revolve around the tall and faceless supernatural figure known as Slender Man.
Slender Man is the supernatural character that started as an Internet meme after being created on the Something Awful forums in 2009. He is described as being extremely tall, with long and bony fingers. He has no eyes, nose, mouth and no other defined facial features. Slender Man is known for stalking his victims for years, breaking them down mentally and possessing them. He is also known for targeting children.
Although just a fictional character, his presence bled over into real life when two 12-year-old girls allegedly stabbed a classmate 19 times in 2014 to show their loyalty to the creature. They also claimed that Slender Man had threatened their families. Both girls will be tried as adults, facing up to 45 years in prison each for attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
It appears as though the story of Slender Man is just screaming to be featured on American Horror Story.
According to US Weekly, the next season of AHS is likely to feature this lanky, black-suit wearing mystical being. However, their source revealed that Ryan Murphy did not write the Slender Man script, meaning that show's producers will have to first purchase the script, as well as buy the rights for the character that is owned by creator Eric Knudsen.
Once the logistics are taken care of, Murphy can then go on to cast the actors accordingly.
We can already bet that Lady Gaga is likely to make a comeback after winning a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television earlier this month.
Ryan Murphy does a good job at keeping a tight lip when it comes to what we can expect for each new season. We already have seen plots that surrounded a haunted house, an insane asylum, a coven of witches, a circus freak show, and most recently, a haunted hotel.
The Slender Man rumors make us wonder if season 6 will fit into the popular fan theory by Red Herry that argues that the TV series is a modern spin on Dante's Inferno. The theory points out that every season is enclosed for the most part in one single space, with each focusing on a different sin, such as Murder House with lust, Asylum with fraud, Coven with treachery, Freak Show with greed, and Hotel with gluttony. Characters return in different roles, all supporting that the series is actually based in Hell.
No matter what the storyline focuses on next season, we are sure that fans will be left feeling devilishly satisfied.
