Many people cannot imagine a morning with a freshly-brewed cup of joe. However, true caffeine addicts often need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up cup or even a late-night serving to keep them awake and focused when preparing for that big meeting or studying for that exam.
That often means reheating an older pot of coffee, or spending anywhere from $2 to $4 in hopes that the Starbucks barista freshly brewed just for you.
Now, consumers will be able to brew a fresh cup of coffee any time they need their caffeine fix — but more importantly, from anywhere — with the mojoe mobile coffee maker.
Mojoe uses its patented "VacDrip" brewing process, which is essentially a mixture between drip and vacuum brewing, to make the cup of coffee. Users just have to pour water at any temperature into the center chamber and fill the tiny filter location with coffee grinds. Then, push the button (holding it for three seconds to prevent accidental brews) located on the side to create your on-the-go cup of joe.
While there are other portable coffee makers out on the market, mojoe does not require the consumer to preheat water first or even use an outlet to brew. This travel mug features a rechargeable 14.5 Wh high-density Lithium-ion battery that then heats the water poured in to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. With a little help from the steam created, the now-hot water flows through a tube into the filter, and the coffee is then released in a separate chamber.
The travel mug will fit into the cup holder of a car, but because of the separate chambers, it can only hold 8.5 fluid oz of coffee. Still, you can fill the mug with water for a second cup while still finishing the first to get through a sleepy morning.
It takes anywhere from six to 10 minutes to brew the coffee, depending on the temperature of the water used.
It takes only 20 to 30 minutes to charge mojoe's battery, but even if the consumer needs some java before it's charged, they can still brew a cup by plugging the portable mug into a wall outlet. The company plans on releasing a battery pack of three just in case the coffee consumer is stranded somewhere with no power.
Mojoe also plans to sell its own brand of coffee, creamer and sugar packs; however, any coffee will work. The portable mug can also brew tea.
Mojoe launched a Kickstarter campaign, raising over $76,000 of its $20,000 goal with two more days to go. The portable coffee brewer and mug is available for $79 through the campaign and comes with one mojoe, one reusable filter and one wall and car adapter. Delivery is expected for this May.
