Snapchat for Android recently got an update which gives a fun spin to the video-recording feature of the ephemeral messaging app.
At the end of 2015, Snapchat added a neat pack of filters, allowing users to play with the speed of their videos. Owners of iPhones could enjoy the Rewind filter early on, and the update finally brings the feature to Android users, as well.
One of Snapchat's originality points resides in the short-lived duration of its images and clips, which means that users have a big incentive to use every filter at their disposal. Snapchat understands that in some cases, less is not more so it made the Rewind filter available to Android handset owners.
The filter is pretty self-explanatory, as it allows you to play your video from back to end.
To take full advantage of the gimmick, swipe right after you record a video until you notice the three reverse arrows pop up.
Surprisingly enough, there is no mention of performance improvements and common bug fixes. The Changelog only talks about the Rewind add-on, so it is plausible that the filter in the sole content of the update.
Snapchat firstly introduced the video feature in 2013. Fans of the app might question why the developer took so long to come up with the Rewind improvement, but it hardly matters anymore. Simply download the update and enjoy the hilarious results.
You can download it right now from the Google Play Store.
The filter is not the only overhaul that Snapchat will benefit from. It was recently unveiled that the messaging app will suffer a makeover, making it more similar to rival messaging apps such as Google Hangouts or Facebook Messenger.
It should be noted that some of the unearthed features and design choices may not make it in the final release, but the reveal simply points out that Snapchat is working to update its interface.
But how will Snapchat improve? First of all, it will get four easily-reachable buttons above the virtual keyboard. This helps users make better use of photo sending and video chatting capabilities. The current variant of Snapchat's interface forces the user to take a few extra steps when using the two features, which is a big no-no in user experience.
Two new additional features should reach the messaging app. Users will be able to initiate voice calls and send stickers.
