More details of The Division have been disclosed, revealing three story threads that give a clear idea of how the game will unfold.
So far, what folks are usually aware of are the character they'll play, the base of operations, the missions and the Dark Zone, a quarantined part of the city that serves as a PVP area. Story-wise, not much has been unveiled aside from a biological attack on Black Friday in New York and a virus that infects millions of people and travels through money, which causes the president to roll out Directive 51.
This time around, Xbox On got ahold of Ubisoft Massive Associate Creative Director Julian Gerighty in an interview and got him to explain what The Division has in store. According to him, the game's narrative is separated into three different threads, where each one has a distinct story to tell.
"Every mission that you do is going to be linked to one of those story threads and is going to give you a little piece of the puzzle for that story thread. And once you've completed all the missions in that story thread you'll have all the pieces of the puzzle that you'll put together and get an extra piece that will give you a different perspective on that story," he says.
To keep the good news rolling, Gerighty touched upon what each thread will be about. The first one is about the virus, which takes on the questions of who created it, why it was made and whether or not it can be cured. The second involves the factions, tackling their origins and how the player will take them on. Last but not least, the third one revolves around restructuring the devastated infrastructure and a crucial plot point, which he said that he "can't talk about too much."
While The Division is obviously geared toward multiplayer gameplay, it has a rich story that's playable in single player. More to the point, the game's PVP matches are going to be seamless, which means that there'll be no loading or matchmaking involved to get things started.
The Division is tagged with a March 8 release date, and it's going to land on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. In the same vein, the beta version is going to go live on Jan. 28 on the Xbox One, and it's going to be available on the PS4 and PC the day after.
It's also worth mentioning that Ubisoft and Microsoft have joined forces to launch a 1 TB Xbox One The Division bundle, and preordering it will give access to the aforementioned closed beta.
