Comparing HTC One M8, Google Nexus is like comparing mangoes to apples

The more details that surface about the Windows Phone 8.1 version of the HTC One M8, the less the device appears to have in common with the Google Nexus 5.

Details surrounding the M8 paint a handset that seeks to edge out the more pragmatic Nexus 5 and compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5 by employing little touches of luxury.

All rumors surrounding the HTC One M8 should be confirmed or put to bed soon, as Microsoft and HTC have planned a joint press event in New York on Aug. 19. But in the meantime, Windows Phone Central has what it claims are the M8's hardware specs.

The M8 will be powered by a 2.3-GHZ, quadcore processor and will be fitted with 2 GB of RAM, according to the leaked specs. The Nexus 5 is fitted with an equal amount of RAM, and a 2.2-GHZ processor that's slower than the M8 by just a hair.

As far as internal storage, there are no differences between the M8 and the Nexus 5. If the leaked specs hold true, the M8 will feature 32 GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 128 GB with a microSD card.

There are marked differences between the Nexus 5's pair of cameras and the two that the M8 will bear. A 5-MP camera will rest on the front of the M8 with a rear-facing UltraPixel camera, roughly 4 MP, while the Nexus 5 has a 1.3-MP camera on its front and 8-MP camera on its back.

The M8's 5-inch screen will has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, at 441 pixels per inch (ppi), and will be protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass, a nice touch that the Nexus 5 doesn't have. The Nexus 5 bears the same full-HD resolution, although its ppi, 445, is just a tad bit denser than the M8.

It's the touches like the built-in Gorilla Glass that help draw the eyes of consumers looking for a bit of luxury in a smartphone. The M8 BoomSound speakers use dedicated amplifiers to fill rooms with thick sound and its Dot View case adds a bit of novelty by enabling users to view notifications through the phone's casing.

"The all new HTC One (M8) is as beautiful to look at as it is to hold," stated AT&T. "The all-metal body with sleek lines and soft curves has been crafted to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. It curves around the screen with no edges or seams to make it one of the most comfortable phones to hold."
