Despite not being a favorite among critics, mostly because of its interface and app selection, the Amazon Fire Phone seems to be finding an audience and has topped the best selling mobile phone charts on Amazon all week.
According to the charts, consumers disagree with critics, with the 32-GB model of the device being at the best-selling position since July 28.
The 64-GB model of the device, which is $100 pricier than its smaller brother, did not see as much success as the 32-GB model, although it did make it up to the sixth spot on the charts. With many surprised that the devices made it on to the charts at all, the question is now more about how long the device will stay on the charts.
Amazon will likely not disclose actual sales, so it's hard do draw concrete conclusions from the fact that the Fire Phone is so high up on the Amazon charts. Amazon's devices have seen bestseller lists before, with the Kindle and Fire TV achieving rather impressive success on Amazon's charts in the past.
An interesting thing to note about the device is that while it is quite high on the charts, it isn't rated very highly, with an average of 3.3 stars out of 5. With 346 reviews, 115 people gave the device five stars; 57 gave the device four; and 79 people gave the device one star.
Other devices on the best selling list of phones include variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as the 16-GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Toward the bottom of the list we see the HTC One M8 and the LG G3.
Since its release, the popularity of the device has withdrawn a little, with the 32-GB model now placing in second on the list and the 64-GB model in 25th place.
Some of the popularity of the device is likely due to the Amazon ecosystem, with services like Kindle and Amazon Prime being pulled together and integrated within the device. Another very popular feature is Firefly, which essentially allows users to take a photo of an item, say while out shopping, after which they will be brought to the item on the Amazon store where it can be bought.
Other features of the device include a 4.7-inch display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.
The phone is powered by a 2.2-GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2-GB of RAM. All of this runs on Amazon's Fire OS 3.5, which is also found on the Kindle Fire range of devices and is based on Android.
